ABIGAIL MILLAR TODD Hailing from the north of Scotland, Abigail began playing traditional celtic harp at eight years old, before beginning her journey into classical music at Aberdeen City Music School. She proceeded to study at the Music School of Douglas Academy (Glasgow), Chetham's School of Music (Manchester), the Norwegian Academy of Music (Oslo), and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (London). She studied under world renowned artists such as Isabelle Perrin, Gabriella Dall'Olio and Alina Bzhezhinska. Abigail has performed solo recitals at venues across Europe since she was 13 years old, and has played with orchestras across Northern Europe. She has worked in many jazz, pop, folk and contemporary settings, bringing the harp into new territory with her work. "THE DESIRE FOR SILENCE" "The spirit of time drowns the silence. All meaning is lost in the hum. No-one can hear each other in the crowd, but everyone keeps talking. They impose meaninglessness on each other. The more we tolerate it, the more it dominates our lives. The only way out here is to get rid of the noise of the world, to take refuge in silence. The way to silence is not through seclusion and escape, but through an open rejection of the unnecessary, the false and the superficial. Everyday life and the drone of the crowd are full of them. This rejection and withdrawal, rather than being, in Sartre's words, "a fatigue put on stage", will itself be a symbol of opposition and counter-language. The mind does not forget what it sees and superimposes new meaning on the old one. In this exhibition, we have taken the negative of the noise imposed on us in every day life and superimposed it on itself. Thus, we aimed to reach silence, the place where the truly meaningful is visible. We take refuge in the "desire for silence" from the suffocating spirit of time." -Arzu Eke   Gallery Marquess, London DD/MM/YYYY
