Programme Note
The American-born and internationally-renowned soprano, Janice Chandler-Eteme, will be in London on the 3rd of December 2016 for a Gala Gospel Concert; when ‘Gospel meets Classical’ to produce the Gala Gospel Concert.
Fellow sopranos Margie Richardson and her daughter, Marquita Richardson, will join Janice in a mixture of solos, duets, and trios. The ladies and band will be joined onstage by OSP (the Orchestra of St Paul’s) - a very gifted and versatile chamber orchestra - under the direction of Ben Palmer, a conductor whose own star is very much on the rise. He says, "I'm delighted that OSP is collaborating with the South England Conference for this gospel gala concert. The orchestra's home is a church, St Paul's in Covent Garden, and sacred music has always formed a very important part of our repertoire. The chance to explore this wonderful, uplifting music with such a brilliant lineup of singers and guest artists is something which we're all very excited about."
Promoter Mike Johnson, the first to bring 10-time Grammy© Award Winners Take 6 to the UK says, “This concert will be a way of introducing Gospel music to a new audience, and broadening the appreciation of those who are already familiar with the Spirituals repertoire.” He goes on to say, “We’re taking the opportunity to invite guests from the world of show-business, sports, music, and other influential people across all levels of society. This is a chance to share Gospel favourites in a Classical style.”
