Programme Note

Our spring concert is centred around Joseph Haydn's glorious rich setting of the Stabat Mater with choir, orchestra and soloist all conducted by Stephen Doughty.  The choir are also going to perform Brahms' Schicksalslied.  Finally, in a world premier, the choir are going to perform 2 songs from Finnish composer Johanna Almark's brand new composition , Never Withering Rose.  This is a piece for choir, orchestra and soloist sets cello with the overall theme of 'holy' visionary women through the ages.  We are singing "Vassula's Dream" created from quotes of Hildegard of Bingen and "Jeanne" from text extracted from the poem 'A Jeanne D'Arc' by Therese de Lisieux.
