Programme Note

Exploring story telling in music, from Robert Hugill's science-fantasy-inspired The Black Dragon (commissioned for London Concord Singers in 2000), to Bob Chilcott's retelling of Aesop's Fables and Elizabeth Maconchy's vivid animal pictures in Creatures. Choral Dances from Gloriana take us to Britten's evocation of Elizabethan England and Jessica Norton's new piece explores Celtic myth, whilst Richard Strauss' rarely performed melodrama combines spoken text with piano accompaniment.
