Programme Note

Saint-Saëns - 'Organ' Symphony no 3 has become one of the most popular works of the nineteenth century symphonic repertoire - finding broad public appeal when the music featured in the sound-track to the hit film ‘Babe’.  Combining full symphony orchestra with a solo role for the newly-restored Guildford Cathedral organ, this majestic work will form the culmination of the programme of great French romantic masterpieces. Also featured will be Berlioz, with the effervescent Overture 'Béatrice et Bénédict’ and the beautifully haunting Requiem by Duruflé, for which Southern Pro Musica will be joined by Guildford Cathedral Choir under the direction of Katherine Dienes-Williams.

An evening of much-loved French Romantic masterpieces
