There'll be Randall Thompson's haunting unaccompanied 'Alleluia' - one of America's most-loved and most-performed choral pieces; and Morten Lauridsen's great and emotionally-charged choral work, 'Lux Aeterna', which was inspired by the death of the composer's mother. Enjoy Samuel Barber's 'Adagio for Strings' - a work of reflective profundity that has the same sense of national identity in the USA that 'Nimrod' from Elgar's 'Enigma Variations' has on this side of the Atlantic. This concert also features John Rutter's 'Requiem' - which the composer views as his most personal masterpiece and which has become the most-performed work of this prolific and admired English choral composer.Guildford Choral, an auditioned choir, will perform these pieces, with the South’s leading professional chamber orchestra Southern Pro Musica under the baton of their esteemed Musical Director Jonathan Willcocks.
