The contemplative work combines arrangements of popular World War 1 songs with haunting war poems and sacred funerary texts set to original music. They will also perform ‘The Spirit of England’ – Sir Edward Elgar’s requiem to the millions of war dead. Set to the poems of Laurence Binyon, it was composed and had its first performance while Europe was still being ravaged by war. For this Armistice Centenary Concert, the choirs will perform the world premiere of a new composition by their joint Musical Director, Benjamin Wolf. ‘Armistice’ was specially composed for the occasion.
