Programme Note

On Saturday, 14 March 2026, the Hereford Choral Society, joined by the acclaimed Orchestra De Cymru, will present "A Feast of Choral Classics". The evening promises to bring the spirit of the Proms to Hereford Cathedral featuring a programme of some of the most beloved choral and orchestral works.

The concert features a stirring selection of favourites, including Parry’s Jerusalem and Elgar’s Land of Hope and Glory. The choir will also explore the romantic landscapes of Elgar’s From the Bavarian Highlands—a deeply personal work featuring the words of German folk songs adapted to the music by the composer’s wife, Alice.

"We wanted to create an evening that feels like a celebration” says Peter Dyke who will be conducting in his role as interim Director of Music. “We also hope to appeal to a new generation of concert-goers.” From the delicate beauty of Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus and the gentle awakening of Grieg’s Morning Mood to ‘How lovely are they Dwellings’ from the Brahms Requiem and the majestic coronation splendour of Handel’s Zadok the Priest, there is truly something for every music lover.
