Programme Note

This is Hereford Choral Society's first concert since its performance of Haydn's Creation in March 2020, just before the lockdown. The programme contrasts Mozart's heart-rending Requiem, left unfinished at his death and completed by his contemporary Sussmayr, with Haydn's exuberant 'Paukenmesse', or 'Mass with Drums', so called because of its theatrical use of timpani, but also known as the 'Mass in Time of War'.
