Programme Note

Guest Conductor Dale Christmas

Kabalevsky’s Overture to Colas Breugnon is a masterclass of orchestral fireworks and brevity, which whirls off like a rocket and is over in a flash! Stravinsky’s austere and poignant Symphony of Psalms is one of the absolute masterpieces of the twentieth century. Shostakovich’s monumental Symphony No. 5 was an immediate success with both state critics and the public and no listener can resist being affected by this emotionally-charged rollercoaster.

This feast of Russian music is not to be missed!
