Programme Note

2017 marks the Centenary of the Russian Revolution and the 40th Anniversary of the founding of Huntingdonshire Philharmonic – hence the idea of a ‘Russian Romantics and Revolutionaries Season.’  This concert will be the second in the series.

Guest Conductor : Lee Dunleavy

There is a pre-concert introductory talk for ticket holders at 6.30pm.

Follow the flight of the wicked witch, Baba Yaga, in Liadov’s tone poem as she sets off through the skies swooping over the Russian forests on her pestle and mortar. Marvel at Grechaninov’s deeply Russian choral music in his setting of the text from three psalms. Wonder at Rachmaninov’s magnificent Symphony No. 2. This feast of Russian music is not to be missed!
