Come and Sing : Brahms Requiem

An Evening Singing Workshop: A German Requiem – Brahms

Add to my Calendar 30-03-2023 19:00 30-03-2023 21:00 36 Come and Sing : Brahms Requiem Join with Kingston Choral Society on Thursday 30 March… to sing choruses from Brahms’ much loved choral masterpiece.  This superbly tender work was inspired by the deaths of two people dear to Brahms - his mentor, Robert Schumann, and his mother.     Ein Deutches Requiem breaks with the traditional requiem format with its fearsome Dies Irae. Brahms is more concerned with consoling the living than dwelling on the terrors of death.  It is this spiritual empathy that makes his “human Requiem”, as he called it, so moving for us today.   Visitors can be sure of both a warm welcome and an inspirational musical experience. The workshop is led by Kingston Choral Society’s music director, Andrew Griffiths with Gavin Roberts, our regular accompanist - both outstanding musicians with national and international reputations.   If you love this marvellous music, and would like to know it better, save the date. Thursday 30 March 2023 7.00-10.00pm. The venue is the main hall of The Hollyfield School, Surbiton KT6 4TU. Tickets are on sale at £12 for visitors, £10 for members and Friends of KCS and £6 for students and under 18s at www.kingstonchoralsociety.org.uk   There will be a limited number of tickets on sale on the night from 6.30pm.
