Programme Note
Charpentier Ensemble present an exquisite programme of sacred vocal music from the French Baroque. The seventeenth-century saw a significant flowering of the arts in France, with the reigns of Louis XIII and Louis XIV often being described as the Grand Siècle (or 'Great Century'). This concert incudes works by two of the finest composers of vocal music from the period, Henry Du Mont and Marc-Antoine Charpentier, alongside compositions by Antoine Boesset and others. Charpentier Ensemble primarily comprises young professional singers and students from the Midlands area; these singers have also performed with such ensembles as Ex Cathedra, Ex Cathedra Scholars, The Choir of Christchurch Cathedral Oxford and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
The performance includes an interval.
