Programme Note
‘Fairest isle, all isles excelling … ‘
Inspired by Henry Purcell’s musical setting of words by John Dryden, our programme of songs and readings celebrates the heritage of our island nations through popular folk song settings. The concert includes choral music by Purcell and Holst, and arrangements of folk songs by Vaughan Williams and others.
The concert is in aid of PAWS-GIST, a GIST Support UK initiative to improve treatment and find a cure for rare GIST cancer in young people (Charity No. 1129219).
Founded in 2001, Cappella Nova is a chamber choir of around 25 experienced singers, based in and around Bath. Conducted by Tony Shield, we perform 3 or 4 concerts a year, usually in support of local or national charities, with a wide-ranging repertoire of sacred and secular music.
