Programme Note
The Gesualdo Six present a beautiful programme of Renaissance love songs, regrets chansons and devotional Marian settings in London.
Ahead of their next album recording, The Gesualdo Six premiere a new programme: Queen of Hearts. This recital features a selection of Renaissance love songs and regrets chansons from French Court musicians, focusing on the three figures of Anne of Brittany, Marguerite d’Austria and Anne Boleyn. Devotional Marian settings are interwoven with texts from the Song of Songs, appropriated to venerate Mary. The programme includes the premiere of a work by Ninfea Crutwell-Reade, commissioned by The Gesualdo Six.
