Programme Note
Musica Antica present two beautiful early 17th Century comedies: Adriano Banchieri's (1568-1634) Barca di Venezia per Padova (The Barge from Venice to Padua) - a madrigal satire of early 17th Century Venice - and extracts from Stefano Landi's (1587-1639) tragicomic opera La Morte d'Orfeo, in which Orpheus, murdered for not inviting Bacchus to his birthday party, is reunited with his wife Eurydice only to find that she's forgotten who he is.
This concert will coincide with Journeys - Teithiau: a travelling exhibition of small stained glass artworks on the theme of Journeys, by Jonathan Cooke, Catrin Davies, Nicola Kantorwicz, Elizabeth Lamont, Rachel Phillips and Christian Ryan, with illustrations by Sandra Doyle. The exhibition will be free to visit from 16th-18th June 2023.
As ever, a bar selling wine, soft drinks and Holy Trinity's famous home-infused gins will be open from 7pm.
This concert will finish at 9:10pm.
