It is extraordinary to think that Mozart began composing this Requiem when he himself was terminally ill, aged 35. Süssmayr, one of Mozart’s pupils, was chosen to complete the work after Mozart had sketched and outlined most of the movements.Still, the Requiem is appropriately seen as a true work of Mozart. To start the evening, the choir will perform one of Haydn’s most popular and dramatic motets ~ Insanae et Vanae Curae together with a timeless gem from Mozart ~ Ave verum corpus.
