Programme Note

This prize-winning quartet impressed us on a previous visit to Richmond. Now they're back, with a Haydn opener, then a work by the young British composer Joseph Phibbs, commissioned by the Piatti Quartet, funded by the Britten–Pears Foundation and the Vaughan Williams Trust, and praised by the Sunday Times as "exhilarating... [a] combination of vibrancy and rigour".

After the interval comes a real monster: Beethoven's Op. 130 Quartet - one of his celebrated 'Late Quartets' - in six movements, ending with the optional, mighty Grosse Fuge.
