Programme Note
Opera Caledonia is delighted to present “Elisir dell’opera” (Elixir of the Opera) on Friday 24th February at the Institut Français d’Écosse – an evening of operatic classics complemented by a specially curated, operatic themed drinks menu.
Award winning Australian Zoe Drummond, a gifted young soprano whose reputation as an artist of unique excellence has been celebrated and acknowledged worldwide, will be joined by Elizabeth Rowe, one of Britain’s finest repetiteurs, vocal coaches and pianists, with an international reputation for excellence.
Together they will present an enthralling evening of operatic classics and art song featuring the music of Puccini, Donizetti, Bellini, Rossini, Strauss and Bernstein amongst others.
The evening will be complemented by a specially curated, operatic themed drinks menu – influenced by a selection of the musical works performed. Each audience member will be entitled to two pre-ordered drinks, included in the price of the ticket, to enjoy throughout the evening.
Drinks range from a classic Bellini Cocktail to a Spanish red, inspired by the dubious love tonic featured in Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore”. Non-alcoholic versions of all drinks are available as are a selection of soft drinks.
Instructions on how to pre-order your drinks via our website will be made available on confirmation of your ticket purchase.
The programme will feature “Quando m’en vo” from Puccini’s La bohème • “O mio babbino caro” from Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi • “Prendi per me” from Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore and music from The Snow Maiden, Norma and Candide amongst other items.
Children aged 12 and above are welcome to attend this recital. They must have their own ticket and sit next to an accompanying adult.
