Programme Note
Divergent Sounds explores neurodivergent experiences and identity through music. Based on a series of focus groups with neurodivergent people, and in collaboration with a neurodivergent steering panel, this project explores neurodivergent experiences of the world, ways in which neurodivergent people's brains may work differently, and the strengths and challenges that come with being neurodivergent in a neurotypical world. City of London Sinfonia performs a series of musical soundscapes which weave together musical interpretations of neurodivergent perceptions and experiences with recorded excerpts of neurodivergent voices from the focus groups. The discussions and themes that emerged throughout the project were reviewed by dramaturg Jen McGregor and composer Amble Skuse to create sonic and verbal explorations of neurodivergent identity. The soundscapes will convey a sense of all the multi-faced and diverse ways of being which exist in this world.
Divergent Sounds is a collaboration between King’s College London and City of London Sinfonia. A recording of the piece will be available to watch after the performance.
