Programme Note

Sophie Lockett  -violin

Robert Max - cello

James Kirby - piano

Haydn’s late trio in E major, with its beautifully expressive middle movement in E minor, is followed by Brahms’s majestic C major trio composed in the early 1880s, as he completed the third symphony. Saint-Saëns’s dramatic and passionately melodic second trio, composed whilst he was in Algeria in 1892, completes their programme.
