Programme Note
We welcome young musicians from the Royal Academy of Music as the festival celebrates the fourth year of its relationship with the top conservatoire.
The Abingdon Wind Quintet was formed in October 2014, shortly after the members of the group began their undergraduate studies at the RAM. During their undergraduate studies, the Abingdon Quintet had regular coaching from world class musicians and tutors including Keith Bragg, Sam Coles, John Orford, Chris O’Neal, Mike Thompson, Melanie Ragge and Mark Van De Wiel.
In November 2017, the quintet performed at the Wigmore Hall as part of their ‘For Crying Out Loud’ series for parents and babies. Elsewhere they have given recitals at Senate House (University of London), Wye Valley Festival, Faversham Assembly Rooms, and The London Sketch Club. In July 2017 they had a week-long residency involving three concerts in the Dordogne, hosted by singer David Wilson Johnson.
