Their programme includes Grieg’s Six Songs opus 48 and Rachmaninov’s Six Songs opus 38, repertoire which prompted the Guardian to write of a recent performance: “Alder is in glorious voice, her soprano fresh and untethered…her high notes gleam, and her words are direct and communicative…Middleton’s playing fills in everything those words can’t say, perfectly calibrated to support Alder but huge in its expressive scope.” The recital will end with Alder giving her first performance of Strauss’stranscendental Four Last Songs. Before Alder performs, ENO Harewood Artist Benson Wilson gives a recital of English and Samoan song. His appearance is supported by the Kathleen Ferrier Awards.
