Programme Note

Outcry Ensemble, now in their second year as Associate Orchestra of the Temple Music Foundation, return to Middle Temple Hall with a programme including Brahms’ Violin Concerto. Written for Brahms’ friend and virtuoso violinist, Joseph Joachim, and known for its lyrical melodies and rich orchestration, the concerto fuses a sense of grandeur with the Hungarian folk rhythms of Joachim’s homeland. The concert will close with Schubert’s mysteriously unfinished Symphony No. 8, described by a critic at the first performance as ‘a sweet stream of melodies… so crystal-clear that you can see every pebble’.

James Henshaw (Conductor)
