Programme Note
A journey from darkness to light, Beethoven’s Fourth Symphony is a compact masterpiece. Opening with dark, almost threatening music, and ending with an effervescent, glittery finale. A piece to blow away the cobwebs.
A tribute to Mozart, Tchaikovsky’s Rococo variations sees an amiable tune transformed time after time, culminating in a thrilling finale. To start we have ‘Con Bio’ (‘with panache’) – inspired by Beethoven but as if that Beethoven had been put through a mincer, emerging in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways… an intriguing and entertaining start to your evening.
Find out more about the music in our free pre-concert talks which take place one hour before the performance starts.
