A Classical Summer's Evening

Set in a specially created fully seated outdoor auditorium, 'A Classical Summer's Evening' will take place on Saturday 30 July as part of Millennium Square's Summer Series.

The programme will go on a journey through some all-time favourites such as Summer from the FourSeasons & Meditation from Thais, operatic classics such as Haanera from Carmen, Puccini's O Mio Babbini Caro & Nessun Dorma & we hear the magic of the musicals in the second half, featuring some of the greatest hits from Les Miserables, West Side Story and The Sound of Music. Joe McElderry's popularity has seen him croon effortlessly from one tour to the next and selling more than two million records, including albums 'Classic' and 'Classic Christmas' which both went Gold within 2 weeks of release. The former X Factor and Popstar to Opera star winner most recently appeared in Leeds as Joseph in Joseph and His Technicolor Dreamcoat at Leeds Grand Theatre. Joining Joe is Laura Wright, who with over one million album sales to date remains one of the biggest selling classical artists of the decade. Nominated for a Classical Brit Award, Laura was the first mezzo soprano to perform at the Olympic Stadium and has toured with stars including tenor Alfie Boe, Russell Watson and opened for Andrea Bocelli, in addition to performing at the Grand National, the official RWC 2015 England Rugby Team 'send off' concert alongside Take That at the O2 Arena and at the opening ceremony for the Invictus Games both in the UK and USA. Jennifer Pike has taken the musical world by storm with her unique artistry and compelling insight into music from the Baroque to the present day. She gained international recognition in 2002, when, aged 12, she became the youngest-ever winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year and the youngest major prize-winner in the Menuhin International Violin Competition. Gates for the concert are scheduled to open from 6pm, with the main performance set to begin at approximately 7:30pm. A licensed bar, catering concessions and toilet facilities will also be provided.
