The Secret Life of Lutheran Chorales

Martin Luther’s chorale melodies are familiar to many people. They are still sung in churches and concert halls, absorbed into living traditions and the classical canon. Now in this 500th anniversary year of the beginning of the Reformation we are searching for their origins and developments… Latin plainsongs, polyphony by composers include Dufay and Scandinavian folk hymns with beautiful and unexpected chromatics. You will see the humble hymn in a different light!
