Programme Note
What if you could travel back in time to experience, see and hear what life was like in the past centuries? Music can do just that! Dimitra Ananiadou is back in York to share with her beloved audience the lively exploration of the creation of Baroque, Classical and twenty-century music. It is a great chance to experience her passion for music in combination with the special bows she uses to travel back in time. There are a million great reasons that she chose to play this particular repertoire in that order – the evolution of the violin repertory through centuries and the pieces with such expanded horizons to interpretation and virtuosity which are not frequently played in concerts – especially all in one concert. It is the chance to listen to great pieces from great composers. Above all, her recent collaboration with the composer and pianist Richard Whalley makes it more exciting, as he will play and accompany her through this musical journey. Just in time, they both joined their musical forces together to produce an extremely sensitive performance with a great repertoire of tonal colours. This concert is like a five-course meal and a great chance for the audience to take it all – from soup to dessert. Dimitra and Richard are excited and get inspired by having a musical conversation with each other and looking forward to sharing this with the audience.
