Programme Note
To coincide with his new recording of the Delius Piano Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Jan Latham Koenig for the SOMM label, pianist Mark Bebbington discusses Delius’s Piano Concerto and also performs the Three Preludes and 'On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring' for piano duet, with pianist Irene Loh, in the transcription by Peter Warlock. Mark’s talk will be illustrated with extracts from the recording and the new CD will be on sale.
(Please note that Mark will not be playing the Piano Concerto live, although we will hear the recording.)
Internationally recognised as a champion of British music in particular, Mark has recorded extensively for the SOMM label to unanimous critical acclaim. His last seven releases have been awarded consecutive sets of five-star reviews in BBC Music Magazine and his most recent CD, ‘The Piano Music of Vaughan Williams’ reached No. 3 in the UK Classical Charts recently where it remained for eight weeks.
Mark’s most recent concerto performances have been with the London Philharmonic and Royal Philharmonic orchestras. In addition to regular appearances in the UK, during 2017 he completed a two-week tour with the Czech National Orchestra and Libor Pesek and returned to the USA for concerts with the Buffalo Philharmonic, as well as making his Israel tour debut with the Israel Camerata.

The Delius Society is a flourishing membership organisation whose aim is to bring together those interested in Frederick Delius and his music. Whilst our membership includes leading Delius scholars and performers, the majority of members are not professional or even practising musicians, joining purely because of their curiosity in, or love for, the unique music of Delius.
Membership benefits include two issues of The Delius Society Journal, which covers Delius's life and work, with articles written by renowned experts, and reviews of concerts, recordings and books, plus two Newsletters per year.
