Programme Note
Having not given a live public concert since February 2020, the Norwich Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to be back on the concert stage presenting a celebratory programme of popular orchestral classics at the Showground Arena on Saturday 23rd October at 7.30pm, conducted by Matthew Andrews. Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, complete with cannon and mortar effects tops the bill, and tickets have been pegged to just £11, with a special price of £5 for any young person under 26.
The rest of the programme is made up of some of the best-loved pieces of classical music, including the sparkling Overture to Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, two familiar Slavonic Dances by Dvorak and the thrilling Night on A Bare Mountain by Mussorgsky. The second half opens with Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, there’s Jupiter from The Planets by Gustav Holst and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture brings down the curtain.
