Programme Note

Join Richmond Opera for an evening of endless pleasure in their new fully staged production of Handel's Semele, based on Ovid's Metamorphosis.

Semele is engaged to Athamas, but secretly in love with Jove, King of the Gods. When Jove carries her off, his wife Juno devises a scheme that will ensure a swift and brutal end – both to her husband’s infidelity and to Semele herself.
