Programme Note
Julian Lloyd Webber launches a day of live performances of Malcolm Arnold’s music for strings, wind and brass from 11am at Cripps Hall in the composer’s hometown of Northampton, with concerts continuing throughout the day.
Lloyd Webber shares a profound personal connection with this performance as the composer wrote his Fantasy for Cello for him in 1986. Consisting of seven short continuous movements, the work conveys the same intensity of expression found in Arnold’s finest works. Lloyd Webber’s wife, Jiaxin Cheng will take centre stage in this performance, which is followed by a talk and Q&A with Julian Lloyd Webber.
Following the day's concerts, the festival transfers to St Matthew's Church for an evening Gala Concert performed by the Northampton Symphony Orchestra, featuring works by Arnold and Shostakovich.
Enjoy access to all the daytime concerts by purchasing a low cost day pass, with the evening concert priced separately.
The festival continues with a free-to-view live-stream on Sunday 1st November presenting a programme themed around Arnold's music of 1956 and a discovery of his piano repertoire.
