Programme Note

The concert starts with Mussorgsky’s exciting ‘Night on the Bare Mountain’ based around an ancient Russian legend of a witches’ sabbath on St John’s Eve

Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto may not be familiar, but we’re sure you’ll love its rhythms and sparkling virtuosity, both of which are perfect for our soloist Joo Yeon Sir.

Dvorak’s sublime ‘New World’ Symphony will be familiar to many and in particular to a certain age group who may remember the cor anglais solo from the second movement and a television advertisement  featuring a steep hill, a boy, his bicyle and a basket of bread.
