Programme Note
We are proud to invite Zoe Perkins to play the sparkling Concerto by Hummel with the HSO. One of the few major solo pieces for the trumpet, played live by a former BBC Young Musician of the Year (2016) brass finalist – this is an opportunity not to be missed!
There’s a strong English feel to the rest of the programme with Benjamin Britten and Edward Elgar both represented. The concert opens with music evoking seascapes from Britten’s dark opera “Peter Grimes” and ends with the magnificent characters depicted in Elgar’s famous “Enigma Variations”. A short piece that will be unfamiliar, but which we’re sure you’ll love is Liadov’s “Kikimora” – the tale of an evil character from Slavic folklore
