Programme Note

On the Saturday of the Easter weekend, enjoy reflective music by Purcell, Humfrey, Handel and others including works from the Harmonia Sacra collections, with instrumental music from the period

Kate Fawcett and Martin Perkins revived the original Musical and Amicable Society, founded in Birmingham in 1762, as a collective of professional period-instrument specialist musicians.  Known for the clear quality and agile nature of her voice, Hannah Grove has a particular affinity for the repertoire of the Renaissance and Baroque eras, working with period instrumentalists such as the Academy of Ancient Music and the Corelli Orchestra.  “…sensitively judged... beautifully clear coluratura
...impeccable tuning, and a lovely warm sound…”

“…throughout, Musical and Amicable Society reminded us what a really first-rate period-instrument band sounds like…” Birmingham Post
