Musicke in the Ayre

Programme Note

A luscious lunchtime treat of songs to the baroque guitar (and lute) from late 17th century Spain, sung by Barcelona-based Mexican soprano Fernanda Sánchez Rojo accompanied by Din Ghani. The programme marks the 400th anniversary of the birth of the colourful José Marín - cleric, criminal and composer - a prolific writer of guitar songs, with pieces from a manuscript of his music held at the Fitzwilliam Museum, together with works from some contemporaries.

This concert is part of the Filtzwilliam's regular Sunday lunchtime series, held off-site while the main gallery is being refurbished.
