Programme Note

Omnibus is thrilled to welcome the world-class British soprano Raphaela Papadakis for an exclusive recital, performing classic cabaret repertoire with pianist Sholto Kynoch to include songs by Poulenc, Satie, Schoenberg and Josef Marx.

Raphaela is establishing herself as one of the brightest operatic talents of her generation. Her professional debut at Garsington Opera in 2014 was singled out by the Financial Times as the “most attractive solo performance”of the show. After her Garsington debut, Raphaela went on to cover the Nymph in Michael Boyd’s critically and commercially acclaimed production of Monteverdi’s Orfeo for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. An avid lover of contemporary music, Raphaela recently had the privilege of creating the role of the disfigured trainee geisha Kikuyo in Nicola LeFanu’s latest Japanese-inspired opera Tokaido Road at the Cheltenham Festival, and played the role of Anna in the British première of Šimon Voseček’s Biedermann and the Arsonists for Independent Opera at Sadler’s Wells in November, a production which was a sell-out success, receiving four stars in both the Guardian and the Financial Times.
