Programme Note
After over a year with no opportunity for performance or even rehearsal members of the period instrument ensemble Leeds Baroque came together to record their first 'virtual concert'.
Why Purcell? His music has been a constant in Leeds Baroque programming, the repertoire was idealy suited to the reduced forces required by the circumstances dictated by the pandemic and Purcell having himself lived through the Great Plague of 1665/6 made him an apropriate choice. The concert provides a snapshot of Purcell's work during the final 15 years of his life, with music for the theatre, the Chapel Royal and domestic performance.
