Add to my Calendar 12-02-2021 19:30 12-02-2021 21:30 36 Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra plays Mozart with Charlotte Scott Premiering on YouTube on Friday 12 February at 7.30pm, the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra presents a programme of Mozart’s early masterpieces. The concert begins with Violin Concerto No. 3, composed in Salzburg in 1775 when Mozart was just 19 years old. Associate Concertmaster Charlotte Scott joins the Orchestra as violin soloist for the piece, which Mozart referred to as the ‘Straßburger-Concert’ in a letter to his father – possibly a reference to his use of a melody from a symphony by his friend, Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf.   Mozart completed his Symphony No. 29 in April 1774. This period of the young composer’s life saw some of his most prolific years of symphonic writing, with around a third of his total symphonic output being composed between 1772 and 1774. The piece consists of four movements, and is written for an orchestra of strings with two oboes and two French horns. Symphony No. 29 is considered by many to be the first time Mozart’s unique compositional voice is heard clearly in his writing.
