Programme Note
How Do You Keep the Music Playing? is a song composed by Michel Legrand, with lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman, for the 1982 film Best Friends. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 55th Academy Awards.
This stunning 7-part choral version was arranged by Alexander L’Estrange for his wife, Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, who SIC Choir of the Earth has been delighted to learn from in her role as the Choral Director for this piece.
We are also proud to feature the incredible Helen Charlston as the soloist for this performance.
This performance was recorded and mixed entirely from home - no-one met during its production.
Whilst it is free to stream this concert, we would greatly appreciate a £5 suggested donation to support our wonderful soloist, Helen Charlston. Donations can be made at: https://www.theselfisolationchoir.com/donations-to-helen
SIC - Choir of the Earth
SIC - Choir of the Earth began life as The Self-Isolation Choir, which was founded in March 2020 as a response to the Coronavirus pandemic. Its aim was to provide comfort and support to people worldwide who were feeling disconnected by bringing them together to sing glorious choral works. The Choir has since attracted over 10,000 international singers to almost 40 choral courses. It has been featured on BBC Newsnight and BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, has performed for HM Queen Elizabeth II, and received special commendation in the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Inspiration Award 2020.
