Yuki Negishi – piano

Programme Note

Subtitled “À la mémoire d’un grand artiste”- in memory of a great artist - in reference to Nikolai Rubinstein, Tchaikovsky’s close friend and mentor who died on 23 March 1881, Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio Op.50 is a monumental work which remains popular, despite its length (in total more than 45 minutes), for its breathtaking lyricism and the cosmic finality of its final statement. The work, and the second movement in particular, is arguably the most difficult piece Tchaikovsky wrote for piano. Pianist Yuki Negishi is joined by two phenomenal musicians from the newly formed Aletheus Trio- violinist Elly Suh and cellist Riccardo Pes.
