Programme Note

Join us for the next in our series of the Livery Halls Tour with CMF Artist Edward Picton-Turbervill at the Painters' Hall on 28th May, 1pm. Taking his theme from the Painter-Stainers' Company, Edward opens his recital with Rautavaara's rarely-heard early piece Icons, and his own set of Seven Portraits. Both pieces attempt to straddle the gap between the visual arts and music. The programme continues with his own work, Silent Spring, which makes a powerful statement about the environmental crisis in a duet between piano and a recording of the last male O'O. In the second half of the programme, Edward will sing and play, exploring the link between one of his songs and the Kurt Weill song that inspired it, and taking us on a medley through some of his favourite American hymn tunes.
