Programme Note
Heather Toyn and John Wyatt offer a delightful recital of piano duets. Mozart wrote six Sonatas for Piano Duet, K521 being the last; he described it as “rather difficult” to play. Schubert’s Fantasia is one of the very finest works for this medium, and takes us on quite a journey. Fauré’s Dolly Suite will bring back early radio memories for those of a certain age, but the whole work is truly magical listening.
Moszkowski’s Spanish Dances are his most famous works – always popular for catchy melodies and southern rhythms. Khachaturian was a fine craftsman of popular melodies, recognisable from its media associations! Britten’s Simple Symphony was put together by him from teenage sketches, and is full of fun.
