Programme Note
Acclaimed clarinettist Emma Johnson brings her Clarinet Celebration to Pinner, performing with Gregory Drott (piano) in a delightful programme, with a wide range of styles. Opening with Mozart Variations (from the Clarinet Quintet) and Robert Schumann’s Fantasy Piece, they play the Impetuoso from Rebecca Clarke’s Viola Sonata, arranged for clarinet, and then Poulenc’s brilliant Sonata for the instrument. In part two, a selection from the Suite for Emma, written for her by John Dankworth, is followed by Minehaha’s Lament by Dvořák. Then a great mix of jazz pieces, including Petite Fleur, Black Bottom Stomp, and medleys by Duke Ellington & Benny Goodman. A great evening’s entertainment.
