Programme Note
The Gould Piano Trio, praised for their ‘musical fire’, have remained at the forefront of the international chamber music scene for a quarter of a century. Fauré’s only Piano Trio is a work of sublime simplicity, written near the end of the composer’s life and containing some of the most beautiful moments in French chamber music. Followed by Beethoven’s light-hearted ‘Kakadu’ Variations and the world premiere of a specially commissioned piece by Royal Philharmonic Society Composer for 2021 and ABRSM Composer Mentee Andrew Chen, the concert closes with Saint-Saëns’ passionate Trio No 2.
