Programme Note
London Concord Singers and music director Jessica Norton celebrate the 50th anniversary of the choir's founding in 1966 with a concert programme stretching from Josquin to three world premieres, by Alison Willis (the winner of the choir's 50th Anniversary Composition Competition), Jessica Norton and Robert Hugill.
Under founder music director Malcolm Cottle, London Concord Singers developed a reputation for performing new music alongside classics and new discoveries. For their 50th anniversary Jessica Norton and the choir continue this tradition with a programme which combines three world premieres with works of significance to the choir.
The choir will premiere Thou hast made me endless by Alison Willis, the winner of the choir's 50th Anniversary Composition Competition, plus a new work by the choir's conductor Jessica Norton and Dominus illuminatio mea by Robert Hugill, who has written a number of works for the choir. These new works will be joined by music by Poulenc, Mendelssohn, Byrd, Palestrina and Britten which has played a significant role in the choir's history.
