Programme Note

Get yourselves down to The Southbank Centre in London on Saturday 2nd February for this exciting performance of works by Prokofiev!

Prokofiev's characterful chamber music spanned pre-revolutionary Russia and the Soviet years, and this is your chance to hear it performed by one of Russia's breakout pianists; Yulia Chaplina (www.yuliachaplina.com).

The London-based Steinway artist has performed extensively in Europe and Asia. She has won 1st prize in piano competitions in Paris, London, Andorra, Kiev, Kharkov, and St. Petersburg. Most notably, Chaplina won Gold in the junior section of the 5th Tchaikovsky International Competition.

Having been taught by the likes of András Schiff, Mitsuko Uchida and Paul Badura-Skoda, Chaplina arrives in London with a wave of world-class training and is bound to amaze the British crowd.

Cellist Alexander Chaushian and violinist Yuri Kalnits will also perform.

This is the 1st concert of a dedicated Prokofiev weekend in London. More Prokofiev including masterclasses and a lecture - recital is on 3 Feb at the PUshkin House.
