Programme Note
The London Sinfonietta celebrates its long-standing relationship with Sir Harrison Birtwistle.
The composer has helped define the ensemble over 45 years of making new music.
As Birtwistle reaches his 80th birthday, recent commissions are relived – such as In Broken Images, due to be released on NMC Recordings in spring 2015 – and the London Sinfonietta looks to the future with the world premiere of a new work.
The programme will be performed side-by-side with musicians from the Royal Academy of Music, engaging and immersing a new generation of professional players in Birtwistle's repertoire.
