Programme Note

Renaud Capuçon and Frank Braley continue their Beethoven sonata cycle with the Spring Sonata.

A work Capuçon first performed at the very young age of ten, the Spring Sonata is so named because of the opening movement's rejuvenating spirit.

The duo then continue their foray into the Beethoven sonata cycle - described by Renaud Capuçon as 'a rite of passage for every violinist' - with the Op.30 Sonatas.

Despite being composed at a time when Beethoven's hearing was fading at an alarming rate and he was on the brink of suicide, they possess an astonishing creative energy.
