Programme Note

Renaud Capuçon - 'the epitome of a modern violinist' (BBC Music) - and Frank Braley conclude their Beethoven concert series. They perform three sonatas of startlingly different hues.

The carefree high spirits of Op.30 No.3, bursting with insatiable good humour, are swept aside by the emotional power of the Kreutzer Sonata, curiously named after the Parisian violinist who never saw fit to perform it, declaring it 'unplayable'.

The cycle concludes with the radiant lyricism of Op.96, a cherishable late gem with a poetic inner glow.
